EVERNOTE
Evernote is great software that uses the internet to help users organize various types of information from several different sources into one, central, web-based location. With Evernote, you can clip web pages and archive them for later reference, store screen shots, photos and create text notes, all within a customizable storage system.

The nice thing about storing everything online is that data is automatically backed up each time the user logs in on any of the synced devices (mobile phone, desktop, laptop, etc.).    You can run Evernote on virtually any device you have; your office computer, your iPhone/iPad, Android, Mac, and Blackberry.

Notes

With Evernote you can create simple text notes, save snapshots, clip web pages, and in some cases, take audio notes.  Store your to-do list, meeting notes, or ideas in Evernote and they are now available to you on any device you use.

Organization

The most beneficial element of Evernote is it’s organizational system.   You start with a notebook.  Much like a filing system, your notebook becomes a place where you store notes.  So, if you use Evernote to work with your clients.  First, Create a notebook for the client.  Then create and store all of your notes for that client in one place.  Conducting research for your client?  Store Web Clips to web pages, copy or drag PDF documents to store them in your notebook; also photos and images.  In addition, Evernote contains several other different ways to categorize information, by using Tags, Note Titles and Notebooks.

Web clipper

Evernote also offers an alternative to “bookmarking” web pages.  Instead of just saving the web address, the Evernote web clipper add on for Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari allows the user to save the HTML on the web page as a note with just the click of a button (Web clipper installs automatically for IE when the user downloads Evernote for Windows, and automatically when Mac users download Evernote for OS X).

Screenshots

The Windows version of Evernote provides a feature that can be used to clip portions of your screen and save them to a note.

Sharing Notebooks

Evernote allows you to share your notebooks with family, friends or clients.  You can share notebooks both publicly or privately.  You can share a notebook via Twitter and Facebook, by emailing the note, or sending the user a link.

Web

With Evernote, you can access your notes from any computer that has Internet capabilities. The interface is very similar to that of the desktop version, and should not be troublesome to those that have already used the desktop version of the product.  One neat feature of Evernote Web is that the user can share notebooks with either individuals or the whole world. Using the “Sharing” function, the user can specify which individuals to send the notebook to, or create a URL that is posted for everyone to see.

Conclusion

Evernote provides an alternative for those that find themselves drowning in piles of sticky notes.  It is a fantastic tool for organizing tech notes and your web research.   Evernote can be downloaded from the web at http://evernote.com or from the app store for your mobile device.  If you want to learn more about Evernote, you can review the Evernote users guide that is accessible at http://www.evernote.com/about/support/EvernoteForWindows-UserGuide.pdf

GOOGLE ALERTS

Did you know that you can monitor the web for new content and information?

Google Alerts provides a free service that allows you to set up an automatic alert that you can receive when new news hits the Google's servers.

To use Google Alerts, you first need to have a Google account.

With your Google account, go to http://google.com/alerts

Enter a search query you wish to monitor.  This can be a series of key words, or a phrase.  For instance, you might set up a search phrase for "Yakima Real Estate", or "Yakima Rentals". You will see a preview of the type of results you'll receive. Some handy uses of Google Alerts include:

  • monitoring a developing news story
  • keeping current on a competitor or industry
  • getting the latest on a celebrity or event
  • keeping tabs on your favorite sports teams

Google will ask you close of a match you want to receive, how often you want to receive the alerts, and where to deliver the alerts (email address).

Complete their form and start receiving that day.

DID YOU KNOW THAT OUR FLEX MOBILE HAS BEEN UPGRADED?
Monday, January 16, 2012 11:12 am | Author: Michael Wurzer |

This morning we took our new mobile site (http://m.flexmls.com) out of beta and added a few new features.  But the bigger news probably was from some time ago, when we launched mobile portals and mobile IDX, which makes Flexmls more mobile than ever.

Now, whether you are an agent accessing the private version of Flexmls, an agent’s customer accessing a customer portal, or a consumer accessing a broker or agent IDX site, you can do so with your touch-enabled mobile phone or tablet.

In addition to moving the new mobile project out of beta, we’ve added some new features as well, including:

  • an enhanced full-screen photo tour
  • auto-loading of listings and photos as you scroll or swipe
  • ability for consumers to take notes on listings
  • uploading of photos by the listing agent

Mobile, in all its forms, continues to be a primary focus for FBS and we expect to continuously add functionality to this new platform.
